Walter Scott and students scholars

An origin story rooted in education.

The Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation was established in 1990 by Walter Scott, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, as their first formal philanthropic vehicle. Suzanne, an educator, and Walter, a business leader, shared a deep conviction that learning transforms lives and communities. They created the Foundation to channel that passion into scholarships and higher education initiatives that would give young people the tools to succeed.

More than 4,000 students have benefited from the Scott family’s investments in education, while partnerships with universities have strengthened educational opportunities across the country. Over the past several decades, the Foundation has remained true to its mission, ensuring future generations have access to the skillsets, support and experiences they need to move their communities forward.
